Guess-What Game
The quess-what game is a childlike play through which the expression of an idea, fact, object or being is part of a quiz to make answers difficult to be found: sometimes itīs got a metaphoric language and in other occasions it is comparison that drives us to the discovery of the oral enigma.
Sometimes the guess-what game is held in a metric way (poems, rhymes) which facilitates its memorization and transmission. That results in an invaluable oral literature, specially for the most needy areas with few or no schools because it ends up playing a didactic role for local children. Usually the guess-what game is more common in distant rural areas, although not so often nowadays as it was in the past. It is also considered to be one of the healthiest forms of recreations in backlands.
Augury
A prediction, prognostic, hunch, pressage or feeling signalling something good or bad will happen. Auguries or pressages are felt and revealed by people with special powers. Sometimes they can be told, in other occasions they can not. During pageantry people performed rituals using fire to take bad auguries away. Much of its influence has been taken in popular Catholicism and is used so far.
Devotion
Dedication, worship to someone or to an entity. Act of delivery and trust.
Those who have faith never get sad or down. Faith overcomes obstacles which seem invincible for the skepticals. Popular wisdom indicates the ways for those who search solutions to their daily problems in Faith.
Devotion for the saints worshipped in Brazil gets easily seen during the cyclical celebrations inspired in the history of their lives and miracles. It drives people to the answers obtained through practice of love, health, working, finance, studies and even through impossible causes. In the popular movements, it unites both the holy and profane into a mix of faith, joy and contrition; reveals aspirations, the several logicals and the individual and collective imaginary. It searches for answers to situations in which the real and the abstract join into only one. Reasons and sensations are translated into elements of the daily life and of the colective actions.
